From what we are witnessing at MACC, kindness will define this period in history when remembering Covid-19. It is true that the unprecedented pandemic has filled us with sadness and fear, and challenged us on every side. But the greater truth has been seen in the compassion, courage, and countless acts of kindness done to ease the pain of others.

“Thank you so much for being a great resource. I took you up on the suggestion and went to see the apartment you told me about. The apartment is amazing and bright. Fits in my price range, I submitted my application request” These are the voicemails that remind me of why I do the work that I do every day.

Our volunteers continue to do a tremendous job every week. I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge Kevin O’Donnell for helping us assemble 1200 bagged lunches each week. The kitchen requires a lot of planning and organizing, especially with the food and paper goods. Kevin has been very helpful in “keeping the house in order.” Thank You (Principal) Kevin!

This week I want to highlight two wonderful volunteers: Marlene and Don Camper. They are a great team inside and outside of MACC!! Marlene and Don come to MACC weekly to do various jobs. They both help sort donations into the proper areas, so the pantry is organized, they carton our eggs and run sessions with me and other volunteers.

Outreach Case Worker

Outreach offers laundry and shower services every Wednesday from 9am to 11am. A Handicap accessible stall is available as well. All toiletries and linens are offered upon request. It is amazing what a clean pair of clothes and shower can do for ones self-esteem. With summer upon us, showers and laundry will be offered twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays.

No matter where I am, I am committed to offering healthy snack options that are good for the body and soul. One of my favorite snacks at home, especially on a Saturday afternoon after finishing a great shift in the Community Kitchen, is this carrot, raisin, and walnut slaw. The ingredients are as simple and easy to keep on hand.
This week’s Recipe

3 cups Shredded Carrots
1/2 cup Raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
