MACC’s secret to success has been its ability to work in close partnership with Town leadership and community agencies, and stay true to its core mission; to be a relevant and beneficial response to emergency needs in the community; whether one time, chronic or systemic in nature. Needs are ever changing and the approach to those needs has to remain flexible.

Are you open? The voice on the other end of the phone chattered. A soft-spoken woman reaching out for the first time in the early evening hours desperately in need of food for her family. It was the sound of tears in her voice that said to me “make sure you stay until she is set with a grocery bag.”

We have had some dedicated volunteers since this pandemic has started. They continue to be the heart and soul as to what we strive to accomplish here at MACC. The love, the energy and overall enthusiasm that they everyone brings to the table has been quite remarkable. I’d like to take this time to applaud you all for your efforts!

Patti Gregory

Operations Assistant

During the pandemic we have had a small influx of new volunteers. I would like to highlight Stephanie Cardwell and Charlotte Pace! Both come in and hop into whatever is needed to be done without blinking an eye! Between the two of them no job is too big or too small. Huge shout out to both Ladies. MACC is blessed!

Did you know that we offer shower /laundry services on average to 8-10 individuals a month? If you would like to support these free services you can provide travel size shampoo and body soaps, razors and shaving cream. We are always in need of Laundry detergent. New towels and wash cloths are greatly appreciated as are all personal hygiene products.

Making hummus is not hard. Once you learn the basic recipe, you’ll be adding in all your personal favorite flavors. Here is a simple basic Hummus recipe I use and hope you will try it out. Hummus is a healthy alternative to traditional dips, and pairs well with raw vegetables. Try as a condiment on sandwiches and wraps.

This week’s Recipe

Hummus (as used in Bistro on Main’s Marais Wrap, shown in photo)

2 16oz cans chickpeas/garbanzo beans drained and rinsed
1-teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil (the good stuff)
1/4 cup Tahini (ground sesame paste)
Salt & white pepper to taste
1-4 cloves of garlic minced (depending on your taste and love of garlic)
1/2 tsp cumin
1/4 cup water as needed

Put all ingredients in a food processor or blender and blend until super smooth

Add water slowly to get the consistency you desire.

Enjoy, and as always Happy Cooking
