Sponsor A Meal
Increasing access to healthy meals should be a right. The more individuals feel empowered in their communities, no matter how “poor” or “neglected,” the more they become better people within society. It is seeing the connection between a choice and the impact it has on those around them. Access to healthy food shouldn’t be reserved for just some but for all.
Join me this September in kicking off the month-long Community Kitchen Campaign. We are serving, on average, 125 individuals and families six days a week at MACC’s Community Kitchen. That totals a cost of $500.00 per day, with each meal at a price point of $3.97 per person. Will you join our campaign today and donate towards sponsoring a day’s worth of community kitchen meals to our community neighbors in need? See our attached September menu and sponsor a favorite meal or classic dish.

Elvis Stops by MACC
You never know who will drop in to volunteer at the MACC Community Emergency Food Pantry. Elvis was in the building the other day. He comes weekly, particularly to organize the refrigerator with wonderful donations generously provided by local grocery stores. Then, Elvis will portion out donations of flour, sugar, coffee, and detergent to share with our MACC families. We thank Elvis and all our volunteers for making MACC a fun place to work.

The Community Kitchen would like to spotlight these two gentlemen. Our volunteer “Principal” Kevin, and our food delivery driver, Juan! They have become quite the duo on our delivery days. Juan is a machine when it comes to unloading the groceries, while Principal Kevin is meticulous with his organization of products. Together, they ensure we have everything we need for lunch service each day, and they make a heck of a team! Building partnerships is what we are all about!

Preparing for Winter
Just the latest indicator that basic living costs, coupled with the lack of affordable housing, are having an impact on communities around our country, and Manchester is not immune to it. July brought an unfortunate new monthly record of homeless referrals to the MACC Community Outreach and Emergency Services Department (COES). We received 37 referrals for homelessness over the 31 days of July. Of these 37 referrals, 32 were unique first-time referrals to MACC. I confirmed 28 of the 37 as homeless, including multiple families with children. Of the 28 confirmed, all confirmed families were offered shelter, one family was transported out of state to stay with relatives, seven individuals were placed in shelters, three are on a waiting list for shelter, and 10 refused shelter. We continue to see increases in all our MACC services and are gearing up for what could be a rough winter for our community and an increasingly busy period for requested services at MACC.
