News from our Food Pantry

As the Holiday’s begin and we all become excited about the season, please don’t forget about the needs in our community. This week we are in need of shampoo, (large or individual), tissues, FEMININE PRODUCTS, deodorant, body soap as well as hand soap, dish detergent, household cleaners. Food products we are in need of are oatmeal packets.

Feel like skipping Christmas this year? Please don’t, it is a wonderful time to create new traditions and bless others in new and fun ways. Write a letter, people have time to read. Plan a scavenger hunt with your kids and make homemade ornaments from the things they find in the house.  Celebrate the season differently, but don’t skip it.

Director of Services

Tis’ the season when we prepare ourselves for the harsh winter weather to come. This year we have had to learn new ways of preparing for what’s ahead. We have come up with creative ways to continue our mission in a safe, real-time life experience to help those who present in an emergency crisis. Every department at MACC is READY!

Family Traditions on Christmas Eve kick off when my sister Illy and our kids prepare our favorite recipe. I’m still not sure who enjoys it more the reindeer, kids or all the adults. Throughout the years she has had to double or triple the batches, especially after we have had to confess our guilty pleasure of eating it all.

Recipe: Reindeer Food

1 (20 ounce) package miniature pretzels
1 (17.5 ounce) package crispy corn cereal squares
1 (16 ounce) jar salted dry-roasted peanuts
1 (14 ounce) package candy-coated milk chocolate pieces
24 ounces white chocolate, chopped
Step 1
Cover a large area of counter space with waxed paper and tape it down.
Step 2
Mix pretzels, corn cereal squares, peanuts, and candy-coated milk chocolate pieces together in a large bowl.
Step 3
Melt white chocolate in the top of a double boiler over simmering water, stirring frequently and scraping down the sides with a rubber spatula to avoid scorching. Pour melted white chocolate over pretzel mixture; stir to evenly coat. Quickly transfer mixture to the prepared waxed paper and spread in a thin layer; cool completely. Break into pieces and store in an airtight container.

Normal is defined as; conforming to a standard, usual, typical, or expected. There is nothing normal about 2020. Each one of my coworkers and volunteers at MACC have adapted to what we are calling the “New Norm”. We are all learning every day and for that I am grateful for each of you. It’s reassuring to live the same Normal.
