Donate - Food

What do I donate?
Cash is always the best gift because it stores well.  There are no expiration dates with cash and it allows the pantry staff to shop for the most needed items and handle the food once.

Another benefit of a cash donation is MACC ability to buy specially discounted groceries through our network of community partners and non-profits. Local grocers also give us food at wholesale prices when we buy from them.

For an ongoing shopping list for our Community Food Pantry, “think combinations”:

  • pasta and sauce
  • peanut butter and jelly
  • baked beans
  • pancake mix & syrup
  • tuna and mayonnaise
  • condiments:  mustard, ketchup, pickles, olives and relish
  • canned stews  and meats like chicken, salmon and sardines
  • canned vegetables and fruits
  • breakfast cereal
  • healthy school snacks
  • juice
  • canned spaghetti and meatballs

What about food drives?
We realize people like to conduct and participate in food drives. The best food drives for MACC are those that are well-organized, because they allow MACC to provide food to the most people possible in the most efficient manner. Our staff greatly appreciates volunteers who collect food, inspect it and dispose of food that is past its shelf life, then deliver it to us and help put the food on our pantry shelves.

Please contact us for more information, especially if you want your child to be part of the birthday club where children collect donations for the pantry instead of or in addition to birthday presents.

Where and when can I drop off my donation?
Although we always welcome donations, it is best to arrange a time to drop off donations with our staff. This is particularly helpful with large donations.

Our drop off location is 460 Main Street, Manchester, CT. Directions are available by clicking the link to the right.
